Cancer Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Ottawa since 2008

Choosing my home-based practice means your care happens in a space that I intentionally designed to feel welcoming, private, and calm. There is little background noise and no overheard conversations—just focused, one-on-one care in a relaxed environment. Many of my clients have told me that it’s a refreshing change from more clinical settings, and with fewer interruptions, it’s easier for me to stay on time, and we all stay on track.

Once your appointment is booked, you’ll receive a few emails to help you get set up and ready.

These include links to complete your intake forms and set up your online account, which will give you access to handouts, appointment reminders, and easy future booking. You’ll also get a personal email from me with everything you need to know before we meet. Taking a few minutes to review this information ahead of time helps us make the most of our first appointment Together.

Wear something comfortable and loose-fitting that allows easy access to the area we’ll be focusing on – think elastic-waist shorts and a tank top with thin straps. I also have gowns available to make assessments and treatments easier, while still keeping you comfortable.

Your first appointment will be one hour long and completely focused on you, so please plan to arrive on time. Since my home-based practice doesn’t have a waiting room, I’ll greet you at the garage door when it’s time to begin.

We’ll start with a conversation about your health history, your goals, and what’s most important to you moving forward. From there, we’ll move into a thorough, whole-body assessment, which may include things like posture checks, movement testing, functional tasks, lymphedema screening, and hands-on evaluation.

Once we’ve gathered all the information, we’ll talk through what’s going on and decide together on the best approach for treatment. You’ll leave with a clear plan, helpful resources, and a couple of follow-up appointments booked.

Your first pelvic health appointment will be one hour long and completely focused on you, so please plan to arrive on time. Since my home-based practice doesn’t have a waiting room, I’ll greet you at the garage door when it’s time to begin.

We’ll begin with a conversation about your health history, goals, and concerns. I’ll explain the pelvic health exam—including both external and internal components—and answer any questions. While an internal exam (vaginal and/or rectal) can provide valuable insight, it’s always your choice, and your comfort comes first.

The assessment will first include a full-body scan to check posture, movement, strength, and any contributing factors. If you consent to the internal exam, this component will examine tissue health, sensation, and myofascial health (tone, length and strength). This exam should be comfortable at all times. I will guide you through each step, and you’re welcome to pause or stop the exam at any time.

Once we’ve gathered all the information, we’ll review what we’ve found, discuss your treatment options, and make a plan together. You’ll leave with helpful resources and a few follow-up appointments to support your progress.

Cancer rehab treatment looks a little different for everyone, so your care plan will be tailored to your unique needs and goals. I believe in working together as a team, so you’ll be an active part of the process every step of the way.

Most people can expect a mix of hands-on treatment, education, and personalized home exercises (where the real magic happens!). Depending on your needs, treatment may also include dry needling, acupuncture, cupping, or specialized care for lymphedema, like manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging, or garment prescription.

By the end of your initial assessment, I will have a clearer picture of your unique situation. We can then have an honest conversation about what you can expect in terms of progress timelines and the number of appointments recommended to start. Your treatment plan will be tailored to your specific goals, and we will adapt our plan as you progress.

No doctor’s referral is required to access physiotherapy in Ontario. However, a few private insurance companies do require a doctor’s referral before they will reimburse you. Please check with your insurance provider for further details.

Unfortunately, OHIP does not cover private physiotherapy. However, many private insurance plans do, so I recommend contacting your insurer to check your coverage.

I do not bill insurance directly, so payment is required after each visit. After payment is received, you will receive a detailed receipt that you can then submit to your insurer for reimbursement. If you don’t have private insurance, you can keep your receipts for your annual tax return—please check with the CRA for more details.

I understand that not everyone has insurance coverage for physiotherapy and that cost can be a barrier. While I wish this wasn’t the case, I appreciate the reality of the situation. Even just one or two appointments can provide you with valuable information and tools to start feeling better. We’ll make the most of our time together to ensure you leave with actionable steps.

Please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone to discuss any further questions you may have.

I understand that things come up and that you may need to change or cancel your appointment. 2 business days’ notice (48 hours) is required for any appointment change or cancellation. If adequate notice is not given, the full appointment fee will be charged.
